Vegan Bakery Directory
The sweets were not any better than what I already make in my own kitchen and the staff was totally unfriendly. I was so excited to try them out on my last trip to NYC but was super dissappointed! I was expecting a bunch of smiling faces but all I got was people behind a counter who were rude and ignored me until I was ready to pay. They were also snotty when I asked a question and responded by saying they imagined I had never had a vegan sweet before. Well...wrong but thanks for the assumption. The plus was the super cute location and shop. Lots of personality. Too bad the owners and staff didn't follow suit. Never going back.

A little pricey for my taste..
I was in the neighborhood today, so I made my first ever trip to the famed Babycakes with aims of getting a cupcake. Although their selection isn't huge, what they have is tasty. A cupcake will run you about $4.25, and while it was delicious, I would probably only spend the money again if I was buying something as a gift for someone (got the red velvet cupcake!). The shop itself is very cute, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and I love the fact they only bake with spelt or gluten free ingredients, as well as only sweetening with agave syrup or coconut oil, and using organic! That's a huge plus and I really loved it. They also had a special when I was there, selling their day-old leftovers for cheap, which was nice as well. All in all, if you're ever in the neighborhood, totally try this place out, but like I said, a little pricey for someone who bakes all her own vegan goodies!
Every time I'm in the Lower East Side of NYC I feel the pull of BabyCakes like a vegan, wheat-free black hole drawing me into it's sugary abyss. The frosting is good enough to have by itself, hence the frosting shots that they sell. My absolute fave is the sandwich cookies with the frosting in the middle. I've been wanting to try the doughnuts but they're always sold out by the time I get there which probably means that they're awesome. While a little on the pricey side, I also always go for the carrot cake cupcake and a slice of sweetbread for the ride home. The sweetbreads always seem a tad on the crumbly side (which explains the four out of 5 stars) but it's still awesome enough to keep on munching. Now they have an LA location!
