Recipe Composition Tips

It's important to compose your recipe in a way that is easy for people to understand. If one step isn't understood, the recipe most certainly won't turn out right. Easy to understand recipes often have in this order:

  • A descriptive title
  • An introduction. This is the critical point where you draw the reader into the concept of your recipe. Talk about what ingredients you're using, why they go great together and what makes this recipe truly special. Or you may want to lay down a storyline that draws the reader in. Like how this particular ice cream recipe transports you to your Grandma's kitchen during a heat wave in 1995 for example.
  • A detailed ingredient list that's listed in the order that the ingredients are used in the recipe steps. You may also want to consider grouping the ingredient list into paragraphs that correspond with the recipes steps.
  • Recipe steps, which explain what to do with the above ingredient list. It's often a good idea to separate the steps with numbers and/or paragraphs.
  • Pictures are strongly encouraged so the baker can get a visual idea of what they're trying to make. Plus, pictures show how scrumptastic your recipe is.
  • At the end of the recipe steps, it's a good idea to specify how much food this recipe is going to make, for instance, 12 cookies.

Recipe Submission Rules

  • The recipe must be vegan or it won't be accepted (duh).
  • It must be a recipe that you invented; not from a book, unless you're the author.
  • Your recipe must be submitted with a picture. This so it's presented in the most professional way possible.
  • Recipes that encourage taste before healthiness are encouraged.
