Loved this recipe! Didn't have lentils so just used blackbeans and garbanzos. I had company and they loved it. I used canned garbanzos, and my son taught me to peel them. He said he learned to do that from Mattie...and it was worth the extra effort, as using canned is saving a few steps anyway.

Sweet Potato Hummus: Addictive

I made this with lemon juice instead of lime, and I halved the amount of juice, tahini, and olive oil. To thin it out, I added some cooking liquid from the beans. It was spectacular and would make a great Thanksgiving appetizer with crackers or rice chips.

Raw Sprouted Hummus: OMG!!

OMG!! That is what I have to say about that.

I made the original recipe which for most would be incredible. Nice grassiness to it compared to most hummus' out there. Lemon juice gives a nice tartness and to round it all out the cayenne and paprika give a beautiful heat/smokiness.

Then I made another batch with the rest of my sprouted chickpeas and did the recipe but added more cayenne, cumin and 1/2 cup of my saurkraut(veganbaking.net recipe with bok choy, onion, soy sauce, and sarachi pepper sauce added) to the mixture and put in the food processor. All I have to say is OMG< OMG> OMG. You must try!! Another superb recipe on your website Mattie!!

Drunken Mushroom and Barley Soup: Warm Goodness in my Bowl!

I was excited to see this post and it sounded sooo yummy! (I was doubly excited to see that this person is from my neck of the woods as finally someone can relate the the cold drippy goodness of the NW). I had never cooked with wine before and it sounded marvelous! Overall I think this is a great start to a soup: Great textures! Crunchy celery, meaty mushrooms, chewy barley. However, I will be going back to add lots of spice. The thyme, salt and pepper were a good start but in order not to get bored of soup by November, I like to make them distinct, which this soup has the potential to be. I'll be going down to Market Spice for sure today and adding a little jazz to this hearty beauty. Advice: Make it! Then make it your own by adding all your personal faves or the untried spices lingering in your cabinet.
